Design Style

I am passionate about designing for the people I meet not the yards I see. Every yard is different and every person is different so I like to design towards a client’s lifestyle rather than a niche design. I would say my design style is creating functional living spaces. Whether you like to do yoga outside, entertain or play with your kids or grandkids. I believe in being very creative and innovative with every custom design I build while keeping it realistic. I ensure that our ideas look good on paper and great in real life.

Design Philosophy

I would say I believe in creating warm inviting spaces. Your yard is an extension of your home so why not plan it that way. Your yard can be an expanded living space to entertain and have guestsover or be a relaxing retreat for one. The plan for a yard is always different for me. I use common design principles but every yard is unique because every person is unique. I design based on lifestyle and what the use of the yard will be. I like to look into the future of what your lifestyle might be like in the years to come. This changes the aspect that I view the space making every project very different. Creating a space that solves problems and finds solutions to things you may have never considered is what drives me. I take a personal approach on every project to find what will best work for you after all I won’t be living there you will.

My love to create and design started well before I ever thought of creating a career. I grew up in Edmonton in the same family home my whole life. We always had an amazing yard thanks to my mother; well my dad did help a bit with the grass. It was always a yard you wanted to be in, large, private, fun to entertain, and cozy, so cozy, full of trees, plants and life.

I originally wanted to be an architect, design buildings and live in a fancy downtown loft. But my love for drawing threw me into a different direction. I did pen and ink artwork all through high school even had it displayed in galleries around Edmonton. I became increasingly interested in pursuing a career as an artist. This passion for art was brought to a high school counselors’ attention. I was then suggested to look into the LAT program, I instantly fell in love with the idea.

I came across the LAT program at NAIT. I excelled with the residential side of design, connecting with people and creating their dream space came easy to me. The moment I graduated at NAIT, I started working at Greentree. I became Greentree’s first designer and soon started designing hundreds of projects each year. Growing more and more every year I began to read and work with my own design team.

Career Highlights

I have worked as a consultant on numerous legal disputes regarding land expropriation elevating the residential industry standard

  • Designed healing gardens for senior citizen complex
  • Designed edible gardens for elementary school education programs
  • Designed a memorial garden with a reflecting pool
  • Worked on green roof design/construction projects
  • Developed a yard for clients with disabilities

Now with the combined knowledge of the construction background and a designer background, I have been able to take care of every aspect of the project. This career has been everything I could ever ask for, the ability to create and design, innovate and change my industry is so exciting. The best part is, it doesn’t feel like a job to me. It feels more like another part of me, something that I can do so naturally. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to design spaces for clients that create that feeling I had growing up with an amazing yard. My scope is ever growing in a career that I will always want to be a part of.
